The transition from college to the real world is tough.  Most new graduates are familiar with the angst that comes with leaving the cozy cocoon of your college life and being thrown into a new city, new routine, new life.  And whether you like it or not, this new life requires a new look.  Gone are the days of sleeping in late, throwing your hair in a messy bun and pulling on a pair of leggings and running to class.  Once you’ve landed a job, all of the sudden you’re expected to look pulled together and professional—every single day.  Work clothes must be bought (oh how pencil skirts and blazers pale in comparison to the comfort of Lululemons and sweatshirts), sneakers and flip-flops traded in for sensible flats and kitten heels.

There is one thing, however, that makes achieving the professional look so much easier.  Consider this an insider tip, from one recent grad to another: you must get a lob.  The lob instantly makes you look more mature. With a lob, you no longer look like a newbie in the real world, but rather, a working woman who knows her stuff.  It’s chic, it’s sophisticated, and it’s low-maintenance to boot. The lob grants confidence to all those who dare to do the chop: even though you may not feel it on the inside, the lob transforms your look into that of a self-assured and talented working woman.  I recently bid farewell to my long locks (man oh man was I scared) and got a lob. And I have to say, I haven’t looked back.

Below are my favorite celebrity lobs to inspire your haircut:
