'Every year the women of [St. Louis] leave the past behind and look forward to the future…this is known as Fashion Week.' - Carrie Bradshaw

Sounds about right?  While New York Fashion Week is incredible, it can be pricey, hard to get into, and a few hours’ flight for someone interested in fashion in St. Louis.  Thankfully, the city of St. Louis has innovative, affordable, and accessible fall fashion events to offer, too.  The St. Louis Fashion Fund, a non-profit organization led by a 32-member Board of Directors, has been supporting the St. Louis Fashion Week events for over ten years.

In celebration of ten years, St. Louis Fashion Fund organized the keystone event of its 2016 season and will support more than 10 weeks of fashion-focused activity this fall.  On November 10th, the Caleres Fashion Entrepreneur Competition (FEC), the main event of the 10 week period, will be held at Majorette, in St. Louis.  The ‘fashion-meets-Shark-Tank-style event,’ will present five St. Louis-based fashion designers and their lines.  In addition to making connections, the designers will all be competing for the $10,000 grand prize and the attention of the fashion industry.  The money can be used to help the entrepreneur break into the fashion industry.  The FEC includes interactive fashion presentations, brand-new designs, live pitches from the finalists, and video displays of the brand.  Following a presentation of all five brands,  a panel of distinguished members of the fashion and business communities will judge the competition and determine the winner.

The Caleres Fashion Entrepreneurs Competition is just one of many STLFW-supported events happening this Fall 2016 season – view the full schedule here.  Other Fashion Week events include: the Celebrate Style Runway Show benefiting Siteman Cancer Center, local designer trunk shows, STLFW Fashion Panel Discussion, An Evening of Ballet & Fashion with St. Louis Ballet and St. Louis Fashion Fund, a local designer runway show, book signings, and more.

St. Louis Fashion Week is an incredible time to network, learn, get involved, enjoy the artwork all around you, and get to know the city, culture, people, and design.  St. Louis is becoming a breakout city for the fashion industry.  Without participants in St. Louis Fashion Week, the show wouldn’t go on.  Try something new and buy a ticket (for as low as $10!), go to a book signing or an art display.  The city of St. Louis hosts these professional, inspiring events for the public to take advantage of and enjoy a taste of high-end fashion entrepreneurship right here in the Midwest.
