Ok, honey. If you haven’t worn it in over two years, it’s time to let it go. Spring has SPRUNG and it’s time we refreshed our closets.

I’m a big fan of keeping great statement pieces that are only right for that perfect event, but we don’t have THAT many of those types of pieces. Today I’m sharing a few tips for cleaning out your wardrobe so both you – and your closet - can take a breath of the new spring air!

1. Group like things together

Any super-organizer (right here!) will tell you this is the key to spring cleaning, or any cleaning, really.  First step, take unwanted things and assorted organizing bins OUT of your closet. Then, as you are discarding your unwanted items (bring your giveaways to thrift stores!), be sure you are grouping similar items when putting them back into closets and bins. I like to group by type of clothing: pants, skirts, tops, skirts, and hanging items.  I even like to group by color and pattern within the type category (helloooo super organizers!). When grouping, also think of what’s best for your lifestyle.  What do you wear most?  Make those items most accessible.  For example, I have an external hanging closet beside my bed with all of my black clothing (the color I wear most) for easy and accessible wear!

2. Hang belts and scarves

Belts in a bin or box can get super messy and annoying when putting together an outfit. I like to put my scarves on an accessory holder (here’s a good one), it’s easy to find the scarves and it adds a colorful end to your closet!

3. Invest in thin hangers

I love huggable hangers. They don’t ruin tops and give you those awkward shoulder bumps. Huggable hangers are SUPER thin and give you even more space to hang things in your closet. Extra space = more clothes. Did I hear someone say spring shopping spree? :)

4. Get some space bags

These babies are CRITICAL for anyone living in an urban space (or anywhere, really). Say goodbye winter puffy coat and assorted chunky sweaters! Throw that winter wear into space bags, vacuum out the air and BOOM. So much more space in your closet to hang your beautiful summer styles! The bags come in all shapes and sizes to fit your every spacious need (buy one here).

5. Host a clothing swap

One gal’s giveaway could be another gal’s glamour!  A clothing swap is a great way to share thrifty items between friends. Make some fun drinks and swap items. What’s better than friends, clothes, and cocktails?

Happy spring, my friends! Take a deep breath of that springtime air and refresh your closet!
