In addition to the usual stress and anxiety that comes with getting a weekend reservation at any restaurant worth eating at in New York City, the fact that Valentine’s Day will be on a Friday this year will makes the process even more challenging. Why not skip the whole restaurant ordeal and do something unconventional with your significant other?

If you’re not in a relationship, take this opportunity to do something a little different with your Friday night. Here are my suggestions for how to find love on Valentine’s Day and avoid some or all of the craziness, whether you’re sexy and single or happy and in love!

Sexy and Single

Grouper

The whole stigma of having to find a date for Valentine’s Day seems to have passed with our generation. But if you want to take a stab at the Internet dating scene, my tip for how to find love this V-day is to try Grouper.com. The premise is this: you pick two friends through Facebook to apply with, and Grouper matches you up with another group of three based on your profiles and interests. You pre-pay for the first round of drinks to ensure that everyone shows up and Grouper tells you where to meet. They actually work with many bars and lounges in major cities across the U.S, so the responsibility is on them to make the reservation! Once you meet your group, the possibilities are endless! If you hit it off, great! If not, you have two of your best friends with you to replay all of the surely hysterical moments.

Tinder

A friend of mine recently started using Tinder, which is an app that facilitates meet-ups with people you’re matched with in your area. Before you gasp with horror that I am suggesting something like this for Valentine’s Day - hear me out. I suggest turning this questionable social media app into something entertaining. I recently read about a Tinder drinking game and if it were ever appropriate to play, it would be on V-day. It involves taking a drink if you come across someone on the app with whom you have a mutual friend, and finishing a drink if you find someone you actually know personally. Ask your closest single girlfriends to join you at your apartment and host your own anti-Valentine’s Day Party. This may not be a tip for how to find love, but at least you will get a good laugh!

Happy and In Love

Hayden Planetarium

Maybe I am just channeling my favorite episode of Friends (when Ross brings Rachael to the planetarium), but I think this is a really romantic idea. Even if you can’t have the place all to yourselves, my tip for how to find love with your significant other on Valentine’s Day is to go to the Hayden Planetarium. I become very nostalgic when looking at the stars and Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to make new memories with the person you love. Even though it’s not very fancy, I love the idea of grabbing some street food afterwards and taking a stroll outside while you eat, and trying to identify some of the constellations with your newfound knowledge. Sweet and romantic!

Couple’s Massage

To make up for all of the back rubs that I have begged for over the course of the year, I am considering repaying my fiancé with a couple’s massage for Valentine’s Day. I do realize that I benefit equally from this gift (☺) but it’s also one of the most romantic experiences that you can create with your significant other. My tip for how to find love with your special someone this Valentine’s Day is to enjoy a couple’s massage and then have take-out delivered. Pick up a bottle of champagne on your way home and… voila! Perfect evening!
