Do you remember the sensation you had the last time you were at the beach? Do you remember the fresh, salty air? The roughness of the sand as the water danced around your feet?

Do you remember coming back home with softer feet?

I do.

The last time I was at the beach was yesterday and it was wonderful.

You see, I’ve been overdue for a pedicure for months now (yes, I’m ashamed).  You know what it’s like – life keeps moving at the speed of light and you get caught up, while the important relaxing things, like going to the beach and getting pedicures, gets pushed to the side.

Well, in these past few days, I’ve gotten the chance to do both and I feel so relaxed. Partly because I got the best pedicure of my life. On my way to the beach, I didn’t think about a pedicure at all or tips on saving money. My thoughts were occupied with whether or not I still remembered how to snorkel and if the boating crew would have a floating noodle to help me avoid drowning in the ocean. I’m still working on becoming a super swimmer!

When I made it to the beach and had walked about half a mile, I came across some of the biggest natural pumice stones I’ve ever seen.  Then, click! A “light bulb” moment had arrived.  I started gliding my feet up and down one of them and wow….amazing! It was an excellent foot massage and the bottoms of my feet were getting smoother and smoother with each rub. I picked up a few smaller stones and put them in my beach bag to take home. I’d actually been looking to buy some before my trip to the beach! But nothing beats natural and free.

Later on, I walked to the shoreline and dug my heels deep into the sand to get them even smoother and to finish up my beach pedicure. It felt wonderful! Something I’ve been meaning to do is to take a nice jar to the beach and fill it up with sand and pulverized shells for a nice, natural foot scrub at home. I’ll be sure to remember to do this on my next trip to the beah!

Last month, I wrote an article on ways women can save money on beauty, naturally. In that article, I suggested women think of creative ways to make the most of beauty treatments while still saving money. One of those tips to saving money was to use raw natural ingredients in your beauty routine instead of buying ready-made products which often contain diluted versions of the real thing.

For example, if you like using shea butter, rose water, or natural oils in your beauty products, it’s often cheaper and of better quality when you buy the natural version instead of purchasing a product only containing traces of it. Of course, when trying this keep in mind that you might have allergies, even to natural ingredients so it’s best to do a test run on your skin before using.

Sometimes, pleasures come in pairs – like beach time & pedicures. Sometimes, they even come for free. Do you have any tips for saving money on beauty? Is there something you can do to make your next beauty day cheaper or better yet, free? I’d love to hear – let me know in the comments!
