Valentine’s Day is like cilantro: either you love it because it tastes like summer at the beach, or you hate it because it feels like there’s an entire bar of soap in your mouth.  Some years, I relished my time in the sun; others, I drowned out the soapy taste with wine.  Regardless of my relationship status, there has always been a consistent element to my February 14th: my love for baking.

If I was planning a romantic night, Valentine’s Day was the perfect occasion for me to show off my culinary skills.  I would make molten chocolate cakes (my go-to), and serve them with fresh raspberries.  If I wasn’t in a relationship, I still whipped up something sweet to treat myself.  A few years ago, some of my lady friends introduced me to the all-girl alternative to V-Day: Galentine’s Day.  We went to a friend’s house in cozy clothes, drank copious amounts of wine together, ordered in pizza, and watched all-time classic 90’s fan-favorite, Clueless.  To top it off, we’d bake cookies or cupcakes, and spend hours in the kitchen, licking any batter we could off spoons, bowls, or the kitchen counter.
