New Trends in fashion and technology

Will 2014 be the year of wearable tech? I think so.

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2014 proved that fashion will most certainly meet function, with collaborations from Fitbit and Tory Burch as well as Intel and the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). For the first time in a long time, trendsetters and digitizers are holding hands and hugging it out. First up to the hugging plate? Burch and the bit.

Scheduled to hit stores and online this Spring, Fitbit and Tory Burch will launch a new line of high-fashion tech accessories anticipated to make your life easier without sacrificing aesthetic. If all goes according to plan, the duo could create one of fashion’s best gadgets.

Reflecting back on the success of the wearable device, Fitbit released their fitness tracker, the Flex, in the spring of 2013. Given that the Fitbit Flex was one of 2013’s best gadgets, I’m expecting big things out of this new collaboration.  The projected price for the Tory Burch Bit is $99 - the same price as the original Fitbit Flex. But with Tori Burch silicone iPhone cases priced at $45, there’s a good chance the Burch Bit won’t be uber-cheap.

But if it’s all it’s cracked up to be and a little bit more, we’re totally down with being fashionable and fit.

Just as exciting is the strategic collaboration between Intel and the CFDA. Creating a community for technology developers and designers with the focus of fashion technology in mind, Intel will work with brands like Opening Ceremony and Barney’s New York to create the next big wearable accessory. “CFDA’s commitments are to drive innovation in the fashion industry and as we look at the power of technology and its influence on fashion, we believe technology will need to be part of the fashion industry’s DNA,” said Steven Kolb, CEO of CFDA.

We’re less certain of what specific personal accessories the innovative giant and fashion powerhouse will produce; sources say the result will be a “smart bracelet” that hopes to top the chart for best gadgets. Exactly what its key features will be, we’re not sure. However, it’s sure to be dope, fit, and fashionable.
