Hi bSmart ladies and women who are new to this community!

I wanted to share my own follow-up to "Chapter 1: The Inner Critic" from 'Playing Big: Practical Wisdom for Women Who Want to Speak Up, Create, and Lead.'

For years, my inner critic was:

    3. Ostensibly, the voice of reason.
    4. The voice of 'You aren't Ready Yet'

And to be honest, I'm still not sure if I'm being strategic or with taking additional and thorough preparations with my goals. For example, with bSmart, I didn't go out and tell the world I created an online mentorship and networking community. Instead, I've spent 5-6 years getting feedback on the technology and programs to figure out the best way to offer this to women.

In some respects, this aligns with Tara's (the author) chapter on leaping, but at times I wondered if I've held myself back. For example, should I be fundraising instead of self-funding? Should I be paying for PR and marketing?

It's hard to know whether you're being strategic or holding yourself back by requiring more preparation, more education, more crossing of t's and dotting of i's.

What do the women in this community think is an appropriate balance for leaping versus being prepared and strategic?

Are women in particular holding themselves back either from nature or nurture by being over-prepared for their goals?

What "Inner Critic" voice do you identify with the most?

    1. Harsh, rude, mean
    2. Binary
    3. Ostensible, the voice of reason.
    4. The voice of 'You aren't Ready Yet'
    5. The voice of 'You aren't good at math / negotiating / technical stuff."
    6. The voice of body-perfectionism
    7. The tape.
    8. A broken record.
    9. Irrational but persistent
    10 The one-two punch.
    11. The inner critic may take inspiration from critical people in your life.

To get the conversation started, I'm tagging Michelle Hoppe-Long Amanda McNaught Mary Bemis Anna Silverman Jessica Li Ursula Choi Diane Im Angelina Eimannsberger Amanda Sannella Gwendolyn Crafts Amanda Wowk Anne Whiting Yirou Yu Tracy Kim Jacqui Gabriella Bower Nina Wanda Schell Gonzalez Courtnie Weber Lilly Pianin

Hello, I am not sure if I should post the feedback on this group, but I will just post it here.
First of all, I had a trouble getting the notification setting message when I first installed the app in the google play store. So I uninstalled, and reinstalled it, but still didn't get the notification setting message. However, I get notifications, so I guess it is automatically set for me.
Also, this is what I see when I first open it through the app.
I don't see the back button, but I think I have the similar "open app" banner above on the screen.
I don't really have any troubles exploring the app since it is pretty similar to the website, and app speed seems fine for now.
Hope this helps and have a great weekend!

    Hello lovely people,

As August is approaching(or it’s already here), I hope you guys are doing great in all ways, achieving what you wish for. I have set several goals in the beginning of the summer, and even though not all of them are accomplished, most of them are in good progress. (And even if they didn’t come true, it’s summer after all HAHA)
I hope you can sum up all your summer goals (hobbies, interns, studies, travels, exercises) and well off onward! Have a great rest of the summer

P.s. The picture below is from Battery Park on lower Manhattan in the evening
P.s. summer body goal is one of the hardest to achieve

    Hello, lovely people!

This is Tracy. I hope you are doing well in the summer. I just wanted to give you a simple but meaningful quote from Buddha; “ Your purpose in life is to find your purpose and give your whole heart and soul to it.”
I am not sure If I have found the purpose of my life. I hope you guys have already found it or find it soon!

  • Hello, lovely people! I hope you are doing wonderful at everything. I had a midterm yesterday, but other than that, it’s been great (haha)

I was wondering if Any of You Guys Have Any Questions About Anything. I think one of the strengths bSmart has is getting resources from each other within the community. And that resource could be the answers for the questions you have been wondering to figure out. If you can leave any questions on the comment section down below, bSmart can pick and write an article about some of them, or I can answer it (if I know or can search it up), or you guys can answer if any of you happens to know other people’s questions!

It could be, really, any questions like “what are the tips for the networking?”, “How do you keep avocado fresh?” (By the way, if you spread olive oil to the cutted part of avocado, you can keep it fresh!), or “what are good makeup products you want to recommend others?”

Hope we can benefit from this, and have a great day!

    Hi bSmart babes!

I’m kicking of the “If you can dream it, you can do it” mentorship series!

If you could be a business owner or entrepreneur in anything, if you gave yourself permission to dream big and listen to your inner instincts, what would you be?

Now that you have your vision - list 3 attainable and specific smaller goals (e.g. designating time towards your goal every day, creating a vision board for motivation, or bringing up your idea to friends and family for support), that will help you reach your big goal

    My answer:
I have always been happiest when I am doing something creative, but feel that my creative hobbies are the first to fall to the wayside when I’m busy. One of my goals is to create a jewelry business (even if just in a small setting, like on Etsy). My 3 specific and smaller goals I need in order to achieve my large goal are:

    1. Setting aside and investing my money in higher quality material and more supplies so that I can make better jewelry and grow my business.
    2. Designating time each day dedicated to working on creating jewelry and making pieces that I am proud of, using my new materials.
    3. Creating an Etsy account to advertise and expand my business.

I’m tagging: Angelina Eimannsberger Amanda Sannella Bridget Duggan Sofia Rosa Bianchi Tracy Kim Lilly Pianin

**Copy / paste the above question as a new wall post or group post, then tag 5 bSmart women for them to answer too!
Include these instructions when you copy/paste to spread the big dreamer positivity and mentorship!**

    Hello, lovely people!

I am Tracy Kim, one of the bSmart community members. I hope you are surviving well from all the finals or any other responsibilities you might have. As the weather gets warmer, we realize that the summer is finally here (Yay!). Please share any of your summer plans, such as travel, exercise, learning new things, internship, or either personal or career goals that you are trying to achieve during the summer.

Let me start first! For this summer, my ultimate goal is to become more healthy: exercising, eating good foods, and meditate for inner peace. Also, I want to learn Japanese, so I just downloaded online Japanese language lessons to study over the summer. I want to do an internship, and study my major subjects to better prepare for the next semester as well. And of course, travel! I haven’t decided where to go, but I hope I will end up in some place very fascinating and perfect for summer.

What are your summer plans? It doesn’t have to be fancy or ambitious; it could be simple as ‘I am going to take a long nap in the summer.’ Through this sharing, I hope we get to know better about each other, about ourselves, and our community.

Picture below is me enjoying the summer in Coney Island! Yay to summer
