Treating adult acne

During my pubescent years, I battled various unwelcome physical changes: frizzy hair, sweat in all the wrong places (is there a right place, anyway?), greasy face, red skin, noticeable blemishes.  Yay, puberty!

Of those nags, acne was definitely the worst of them.  You name it, I tried everything: creams, soaps, sprays, supplements, gels, pills.  I visited the dermatologist on a monthly basis and together, he and I worked to fight off the zits that had made a loving home of my visage.  And guess what?  Eventually, we found a treatment that was right for me.

Try Organic Apple Cider Vinegar to treat rosacea

After adolescence, my acne cleared up immensely.  However, if I don’t take proper care of my skin, the pimples show right back up like the high school bullies you never wanted to see again.  If you’re an adult who deals with acne, don’t lose hope.  There are tons of ways to diminish the blemishes!  Bear in mind that one specific technique doesn’t work for everyone—dabble in all of these methods until you find something that works.

1) Murad acne kit

I’m listing this as number one, because of all the acne treatments I’ve tried, Murad works the best for me.  The face wash doesn’t leave your skin dry and thus more likely to crank up the oil production and cause breakouts, which is a common experience with acne washes.  Instead, it leaves your face feeling soft and clean.  This kit also comes with an exfoliating acne treatment gel, lotion designed for pimply skin, and acne spot treatment.  It's on the pricier side, but think of it this way: You only get one face. And it’s worth it.

2) Face mask

I’m a huge advocate for face masks, because they suck out the dirt, oil and impurities in your skin in a matter of fifteen minutes.  If you carve out the time for a face mask twice a week, your skin is sure to clear up. I’m a big fan of this one from Maple Holistics, packed with pure French green clay, bentonite clay and fuller’s earth clay, which draw out the bad stuff in your face and work to revitalize it.  Give it a shot!

3) Baking soda, sea salt and water

Interested in something homemade? This remedy is said to help clear up cystic acne.  In a bowl, mix baking soda, sea salt and water until it becomes a paste-y texture.  Apply onto the acne-riddled area and wait ten minutes, then wash off with lukewarm water.  Repeat these steps three times a week. You can’t beat the price.

4) Minocycline

If your zits are incredibly pervasive and just so stubborn that no topical treatment works, consider minocycline with your dermatologist.  I used it once or twice a day for about six years, and it made a significant difference in my skin.  I’d recommend it to anybody who experiences severe acne! Bonus: I had very minimal side effects.

Treating rosacea

In all my appointments with the dermatologist, I remember one very specific visit where he prescribed me a treatment for rosacea because of my lightly flushed cheeks.  There are different types of rosacea, and luckily, I was very mildly affected by it.

Yet, some aren’t so lucky.  According to rosacea.org, some rosacea causes bumps, red patches, stinging, swelling, roughness and scaling.  Rosacea is chronic, distressing (it’s like you’re permanently blushing!), and certainly uncomfortable.

Not all of these strategies will work for your specific kind of rosacea, but since they’re fairly cheap and easy, there’s no harm in trying.  Let us know if you see a difference when using any of these methods!

1) Olive leaf extract

Olive leaf detoxifies, builds up a strong immune system and contains anti-inflammatory properties.  It also supports healthy cellular performance. Across the board, olive leaf is said to work as a natural remedy for rosacea-sufferers.

2) Apple cider vinegar

A powerful internal deep cleanser, apple cider vinegar aids everything from a sore throat to stomach problems to diabetes to high cholesterol. Oh, and it’s fab for your skin. Twice a day, mix two tablespoons of organic apple cider vinegar with a big cup of water. If you find the taste to be too strong, add a spoonful of honey.  Chug it down and flush away your health issues

3) PROSACEA gel

If natural remedies just aren’t doing the trick, consider this topical treatment by PROSACEA. It helps to clear the redness, dryness and bumps caused by rosacea and has a rating of 4.5 stars on Amazon.

4) Sea buckthorn seed oil

Not only does this stuff treat skin conditions like rosacea, acne and eczema, but also it helps to decrease the appearance of wrinkles and age spots.  If you scroll down to the reviews, there are a number of testimonies claiming this oil does the trick for rosacea.  Either way, it’s not a waste of cash, because it promotes overall healing of the skin.
