Christina Riccardi reacted to this post about 4 years agoHey everyone! This past year I took a trip to Colombia to visit family I had not seen for about 10 years. During that time there was also a celebration called Carnaval de Barranquilla; which is similar to Rio Carnival in Brazil and Mardi Gras in New Orleans. I had an amazing experience celebrating and dancing with family and really living in the moment. One of my favorite parts of Carnaval was having flour thrown on me and throwing it back onto others despite it being dumped all over my hair! Although Carnaval only lasted for a few days, I was able to reconnect with family as well as Colombian culture.
While I was in Colombia I also visited Cartagena and Isla Barú. I was only in Cartagena for two days, but I found it to be very beautiful and historic. At night the walled city of old Cartagena lit up and people were dancing and walking around. I would recommend Cartagena for tourists looking to visit Colombia, as it is generally safer and there is more to do there.
Overall I had a great trip and felt safe. I think it is important to note that I did spend most of my time with my family who was very familiar with the different areas in Colombia. Some extra precautions I took to stay safe were to not show off anything valuable I had specifically my phone and jewelry. I also made sure I was aware of my surroundings, especially at night.
I would love to hear if anyone has visited Colombia or has stories from another country that has impacted their life in some way. I would also be very open and excited to hear any recommendations for a country I should travel to next!
I hope to go back soon, but for now all I have are great memories and photos from my trip. Here are a few:

Joanna Gaden commented on this post about 5 years agoI just recently came back from a trip to Russia and the Czech Republic! Russia, particularly Saint Petersburg, is home for me because my mother’s entire family is there. However it was still so beautiful there, especially since I hadn’t been back in four years. Prague, Karlovy Vary, and Kutna Hora of the Czech Republic are such beautiful and unique cities. Prague felt like an amalgamation of the best qualities of European cities. I’m a new member to BSmart and just wanted to share!Post is under moderationStream item published successfully. Item will now be visible on your stream.

Andrea Rice reacted to this post about 5 years agoHey everyone! I'm fairly new to bSmart and wanted to share a picture I took of one of the Budapest bridges at night. Last semester, I went to a study abroad program in the Netherlands where me and the other students who got in could travel during the weekends to other places in Europe. One of those places happened to be Budapest. This trip was actually planned by me on a whim and I didn't expect much from it. Now, it's considered one of my favorite places I visited! Not only was it fun, but there was so much underlying beauty to it that shown through at night. I learned that it's okay to not always have a plan and the most unexpected places can have a great impact on you. I recommend going to Budapest, it was quite an experience!Post is under moderationStream item published successfully. Item will now be visible on your stream.

Jacqui commented on this post about 7 years agoHello bSmart World Travelers!
Warby Parker’s Spring Collection is here!
Check out their story below and shop the collection to wear on your next sunny destination!
Warby Parker was founded with a rebellious spirit and a lofty objective: to offer designer eyewear at a revolutionary price, while leading the way for socially conscious businesses.
Every idea starts with a problem. Ours was simple: glasses are too expensive. We were students when one of us lost his glasses on a backpacking trip. The cost of replacing them was so high that he spent the first semester of grad school without them, squinting and complaining. (We don’t recommend this.) The rest of us had similar experiences, and we were amazed at how hard it was to find a pair of great frames that didn’t leave our wallets bare. Where were the options?
It turns out there was a simple explanation. The eyewear industry is dominated by a single company that has been able to keep prices artificially high while reaping huge profits from consumers who have no other options.
We started Warby Parker to create an alternative.
By circumventing traditional channels, designing glasses in-house, and engaging with customers directly, we’re able to provide higher-quality, better-looking prescription eyewear at a fraction of the going price.
We believe that buying glasses should be easy and fun. It should leave you happy and good-looking, with money in your pocket.
We also believe that everyone has the right to see.
Almost one billion people worldwide lack access to glasses, which means that 15% of the world’s population cannot effectively learn or work. To help address this problem, Warby Parker partners with non-profits like VisionSpring to ensure that for every pair of glasses sold, a pair is distributed to someone in need.
There’s nothing complicated about it. Good eyewear, good outcome.Post is under moderationStream item published successfully. Item will now be visible on your stream. -

The 2-hour walking tour of the Metropolitan Museum of Art celebrates the feisty path-breaking women who made themselves heard throughout history. Led by Professor of Classics Andrew Lear, the tour examines talented and independent females who have been referred to as “nasty women” and their place as both subjects and producers of great art."Post is under moderationStream item published successfully.
