Cheyann Greirson reacted to this post about 4 years agoDo you sometimes feel a lack of confidence when sharing your ideas? Me too.
For my K-12 years, I attended an all girl’s school in NYC. One of the main things they taught us was to “power pose,” which entails your hands on your hips and your head tilted upwards. They taught us this stance so we could exude confidence. We were always taught to participate in class and project our voices. College was a rude awakening for me, as the conversations in our seminar style classes were dominated by the men in the room. In my first college class, I immediately shriveled up as the discussion began and everything I learned at my K-12 school went out the window.
In a 2012 TedTalk, Amy Cuddy discusses how body language can impact how chances for success in one’s future. A “power pose” or strong stance can boost your confidence even if you aren’t feeling that way.
Comment below if you have faced a similar story to my own and how you overcame it! What are your thoughts on this TedTalk?Post is under moderationStream item published successfully. Item will now be visible on your stream. -
Kate Platzker reacted to this post about 4 years agoHave you ever felt that you're overworking yourself?
I recently saw my 20 something year old friend who is full time entrepreneur for the first time in a few years. She had grey hairs and told me she suffers from frequent migraines. I asked her when the last time she had a full night’s rest and she couldn’t give me an answer.
I commend all entrepreneurs and I understand that when you’re passionate about and dependent on a idea you will work tirelessly to make it grow. But, for the sake of your health, both mental and physical, it is SO important that you slow down every once in a while. I recommended that my friend read “Thrive” by Arianna Huffington, who talks about the importance of self care, because sometimes being too ambitious and trying to get everything done by yourself can lead to burnout which can cause depression or physical health issues.
There are many other things a female entrepreneur can do to maintain a healthy lifestyle, such as practicing mindfulness.
If you don’t know what that means, check out this podcast by bSmart founder Meagan Hooper explaining how to tap into your intuition and become aware of your needs.

Hi bSmart entrepreneurship babes!
I’m kicking of the “If you can dream it, you can do it” mentorship series!
If you could be a business owner or entrepreneur in anything, if you gave yourself permission to dream big and listen to your inner instincts, what would you be?
Now that you have your vision - list 3 attainable and specific smaller goals (e.g. designating time towards your goal every day, creating a vision board for motivation, or bringing up your idea to friends and family for support), that will help you reach your big goal
My answer:
I have always been happiest when I am doing something creative, but feel that my creative hobbies are the first to fall to the wayside when I’m busy. One of my goals is to create a jewelry business (even if just in a small setting, like on Etsy). My 3 specific and smaller goals I need in order to achieve my large goal are:
1. Setting aside and investing my money in higher quality material and more supplies so that I can make better jewelry and grow my business.
2. Designating time each day dedicated to working on creating jewelry and making pieces that I am proud of, using my new materials.
3. Creating an Etsy account to advertise and expand my business.

Hi bSmart Ladies!
I’m kicking off the must-watch entrepreneurship video series!
**What are your must-watch entrepreneurship / business motivation videos?**
For me, ‘Start With Why’ by Simon Sinek was one of the most insightful videos I’ve watched on why consumers take action (or not.) Drawing illustrations from Apple, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and the Wright Brothers, Sinek illustrates that you succeed by communicating not ‘what’ you do or ‘how’ you do it, but ‘WHY’ you do it.
Another really great video on creating brand awareness and communicating your brand promise is by Kate Spade Chief Marketing Office Mary Beech. A must watch!

Her company, currently valued at $1.1 billion, did not reach its success today without battling through significant obstacles.
