Yes, friends! It is FINALLY warm.  I know, I know.  As New Yorkers, we are trained to complain whenever the temperature gets too extreme – when it’s freezing or 105 (this New Yorker included).  But right now we’re at that amazing temperature where we can enjoy being outside without sweating to death – and are able to embrace our glamorousness in the process!

So maybe you’re off to the Hamptons.  Maybe you’re headed to a pre-wedding event.  Or maybe you’re just headed to any social event that is held outdoors.  All of these can be perfect opportunities to play dress up for the --ooh-la-la-- garden party!

Garden parties somehow give way to an air of femininity that doesn’t seem to exist as strongly at other types of events.  I guess it’s the billowing sunlight, fresh air, typically fruity beverages, and ability for a gal to just float effortlessly around the party wearing floral that makes garden parties oh-so-chic.

I say embrace these sentiments in your choice of dress. Here are a few ideas of fabulous things to wear to a garden party this summer.

1) Pick an airy material.  Garden parties are a great time to try out linens, chiffon, or cotton blends.  Stick with something basic and jazz it up with some fun jewelry. You’ll feel light and airy all night long.

2) Wear all white.  I’m very into monochrome right now.  Wearing all white is a great way to make a statement, while giving your body a clean and sleek look.  Add fun colored jewelry to give it a little more pizzazz.  Hello, sophistication!

3) Opt for fun flats!  No one wants to be a stick in the mud.  In this case, literally.  Stiletto heels will sink easily into grass or soil, so given the outdoor nature of a garden party, go for flats that’ll have you standing tall!

4) A bold-colored jacket.  Yellow!  Coral!  Orange!  The opportunities are endless with bright-colored jackets.  Recycle a plain white, blue, or black dress and pair a bright-colored jacket that will give your look instant sophistication and fun. Also good for the cool breeze as the party keeps going after sunset!

5) A-line party dress.  Who doesn’t want to feel like Lucille Ball from time to time? Or is that just me? A fun and flirty A-line party dress is the perfect look for a garden party.  Opt for a bright citrus or royal blue (I’m loving yellow this year!).  If you want to go the extra mile, add a petticoat to really give the A-line a boost! You’ll feel more 1950’s than ever before.

Wherever the spring and summer breezes may blow you, enjoy a breath of fresh air on this new season and your garden party style.
