Toronto based writer and artist Rupi Kaur, best known for her self-published collection of poems titled ‘Milk and Honey,’ is our #bSmartWoman feature of the day. After being told it was impossible to publish her collection of poems, she decided to take matters into her own hands taking classes, workshops, and watching YouTube videos to see her vision through. We love Rupi’s #perseverance and are so thankful for deciding to share her beautiful work with the world. Grab your copy of ‘Milk and Honey’ today!

‘I have been told many times by various people that I would never have a successful accessories business,’ says Stella McCartney, British fashion designer and passionate animal rights activist who refuses to use animal products in her high-end garments. ‘But we now have more iconic bags and shoes than many leather houses. The main thing is to create a beautiful, desirable bag that doesn’t compromise style but is for the conscious consumer. I have for sure lost money because of it. But money is not what drives me.’

McCartney is a passionate woman, once described as a ‘natural-born activist,’who does not let her morals waver when things get tough. Her perseverance in face of obstacles both moral and material is why Stella McCartney is our inspirational woman of the day.

bSmart ladies, let’s be as steadfast in our values and perseverant in the pursuit of our goals as Stella McCartney!

‘Sit down and ask yourself, ‘What is the most important thing to me?’ Mix that with doing something you love, something you could keep doing forever and ever. For me it was ending violence against women, and I mixed it with music. And I’ve had a 25-year career. So that’s my advice: Find something you really care about and mix that with something you love doing.’ -- Kathleen Hanna

Kathleen Hanna is an accomplished rock musician, powerful feminist activist, and all-around inspirational badass! Not only did Hanna help pioneer the ‘Riot Grrrl’ movement that fought for women’s rights in the punk rock community and beyond, she continues to contribute to intersectional feminist causes today.

You don’t have to be a rock icon to be a leader or an activist - so bSmart ladies, let’s be as purposeful as Kathleen Hanna!

Good morning bSmart babes! Today’s core value is collaboration. A bSmart woman listens as much as she speaks and values the creative process.

Actress and comedian Amy Poehler says it best, ‘As you navigate through the rest of your life, be open to collaboration. Other people and other people’s ideas are often better than your own. Find a group of people who challenge and inspire you, spend a lot of time with them, and it will change your life.’

How smart, ambitious women navigate their careers and articulate their opinions can be quite different. Linda Hirshman’s book ‘Sisters in Law - How Sandra Day O’Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg Went to the Supreme Court and Changed the World’ analyzes the trajectories of the first two women to serve on the United States Supreme Court. While each of these women is a role model on her own, bringing them together raises fascinating insights about successful women, how they get to the top, and in which ways they are feminists and rule-breakers. Share your thoughts on Ginsburg and O’Connor with us in the comments
